Threads of Gratitude: A Heartfelt Visit to Our Weavers

Writer's picture: MireiMirei

In December 2024, our team had the privilege of visiting our master weavers in Bicol, an experience that not only reaffirmed the importance of their craft but also deepened our commitment to supporting their artistry and well-being. As the year draws to a close, this visit was an opportunity to reflect on the journey we have shared, express gratitude, and ensure we continue to uplift their lives through our work together.

Honoring Tradition and Craftsmanship

At the heart of our studio lies a profound respect for Filipino handcraft. Our banaca fabric, a unique material sourced and woven by these skilled artisans, is the soul of our designs, embodying the beauty and authenticity of Filipino heritage. During our visit, we were reminded of the extraordinary dedication and expertise these weavers bring to their work. Each strand they weave is a testament to their artistry, patience, and cultural pride.

It was touching to hear them share how their craft has brought meaning and purpose to their lives. Many spoke of how weaving has not only provided them with a livelihood but also instilled a sense of fulfillment and pride in showcasing Filipino craftsmanship to the world. Knowing that their work illuminates spaces globally gives them immense joy and a strong connection to a larger purpose.

Our visit wasn’t just about celebrating achievements, it was also a moment to listen. We engaged in heartfelt conversations to understand their challenges, from improving their living conditions to ensuring sustainable work practices. By recognizing their needs, we aim to foster a more supportive and enriching environment for them, ensuring that our partnership continues to thrive in the years to come.

We were particularly moved by their heartfelt speeches, where they expressed feeling like they are part of a family. Hearing how this sense of belonging has positively impacted their lives was deeply touching and reinforced our commitment to strengthening these connections.

This dialogue was eye-opening and humbling. We are reminded that every piece of fabric woven for our lighting designs represents not just craftsmanship, but the resilience and dedication of the people behind it. Their well-being is inseparable from the success of our brand, and it is our responsibility to nurture this connection thoughtfully.

Looking Ahead Together

This visit was a poignant reminder of the deep relationship between design and craftsmanship. As we move forward, our focus remains on creating meaningful partnerships that respect and uplift the people who make our vision possible. By listening, supporting, and celebrating their work, we aim to build a future where artistry and sustainability go hand in hand.

To our weavers in Bicol, we extend our deepest gratitude. Your work lights up more than just spaces; it inspires and connects people across the globe. As we end this year, we do so with a renewed commitment to honoring your craft and ensuring that our shared journey continues to grow and flourish.

Here’s to a brighter, more connected future together.
